Grade   7+      $18.00-$20.26/hr.                                                                   FLSA Non-Exempt
I.         QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/ Experience:
 
  1.   Associates’ degree in health or human service field preferred.
  2.   High School Diploma or GED required.
  3.   One year experience working with individuals living with a mental health condition.
  4.   Persons with experience living with a mental health diagnosis preferred.

Skills:
 
  1. Basic knowledge/experience of coping skills, self-help techniques, and mental health services delivery system
  2. Interpersonal skills to verbally engage individuals
  3. Ability to assertively advocate for individuals and negotiate with service providers
  4. Ability to teach skills to individuals, small groups and to facilitate group meetings
  5. Ability to serve as positive role model for individuals
                                6. The ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach and lift items                                                    weighing 25 lbs.
  1.       Ability to legally operate a vehicle in NY State with good driving record.

Major Functions
The Wellness Specialist will be able to implement a blended model of support that integrates social engagement, immediate needs assessment and response, on site advocacy and support and meaningful activities for individuals facing mental and behavioral health challenges. This role is dynamic and requires being actively engaged with individuals with very limited time at a desk. 

The position involves active participation in community events, recreational activities, transport responsibilities, and hands-on timely interventions to support individuals in their recovery journey.
  1. Facilitate a holistic approach to wellness by combining social activities, on site support, and community advocacy to enhance mental and behavioral health.
  2. Actively participate in community events, including tabling and rallies, to promote awareness, reduce stigma, and connect individuals with vital resources.
  3. Organize and lead wellness workshops and recreational activities for groups that foster social connections, personal growth, and recovery.
  4. Provide on-site as needed support, offering guidance, resources, and crisis intervention for individuals seeking assistance.
  5. Oversee, model and teach daily living skills/enhancing work skills such as meal prep, laundry, cash register, maintenance, cleaning, etc.
  6. Advocate for individuals facing mental health challenges, ensuring access to necessary resources and fostering a supportive community environment.
  7. Transport individuals for grocery shopping, recreation, and essential appointments to DSS or other important services, as needed.
  8. Mentor individuals in recovery, supporting their resilience and encouraging healthy coping strategies while serving as a positive role model.
